4. Recovery/Restoration is a thumbprint. (There’s no one-size-fits-all.)

To think that even when in the womb God created us (Ps. 139:13-15), is mind-bending. Psalm 139 sings of this fact, but it also declares we were created even before mom in the depths of the earth. Verse 15’s “my frame was not hidden from you,” applies to my neck, for sure. Especially because my neck pain was 16 years old and there really was no incident that caused this protrusion in my spinal column, it actually makes sense to think God knew my frame when I was far from physically created or thought about by any human.

As far as the house, Psalm 139’s powerful ending speaks very parallel to what we are processing: “Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (v. 23-24, NIV). Searching through ashes to be able to see what was lost in the fire was a perfect picture of how we truly want our thoughts and heart to be sought. And only God can see through the ashes.
